Day 6 - Sunny Sundress!

What I made:

Maryy dress (free pattern!) from Burdastyle, with a few alterations - I added the waistband and pockets, of course!

What I like about it:

My favorite thing about it is most definitely the fabric. Since I got it from my granny (who has been sewing and quilting basically her entire life), I will always be reminded of her when I wear it, and I love that.

Day 5 - Chambray Shorts of Summer!

What I made:

Little summer shorts, McCall's 5391

Denim chambray fabric from Fabric.com (again)

When I made it:

July 2010 - see them in action earlier this summer below at Kennedy Space Center with the husband!

What I like about it:

Comfort level = REAL comfortable

Pockets - front and back!

Unfortunate thing: extremely easily wrinkled - oh well!

Day 4 - Linen Slouchy Blouse!

What I made:

(Tell me the truth...does anyone else thinks this looks a little bit like a chef's jacket? Just a little?)

When I made it:

Two weeks ago! Especially in preparation for Self-Stitched September. It was really fast and easy to make, with the most time-consuming part being the TEN buttonholes!

What I like about it:

The double-breasted front.

The tabs on the sleeves - it's fun to roll things up!

Day 3 - Extreme Wide Leg Mom Pants!

Have you ever seen legs as wide as these? Yeah, I didn't think so. They are so wide, in fact, that a woman at my work commented on my skirt. Really?! Do people wear floor-length skirts to the office these days?

What I made:
Some classic high-waisted, huge-legged pants from an out-of-print Simplicity pattern
Fabric from the bargain table at Paron on 40th St.


When I made it:
October 2009 - during the era of unemployment! With the hopes of someday being gainfully employed, obviously, as I would never wear these pants in my real life and reserve them only for the office.

What I like about it:
The fabric - You almost can't tell because it's so tiny, but the fabric is actually black and white houndstooth, and I love me some houndstooth.
Unbelievably, the wide legs - These babies are comfortable. My knees have tons of breathing room!

Day 2 - Sort of Questionable, Not That Cute Shirtdress!

What I made:
Project Runway-inspired shirtdress, from a Simplicity pattern that is no longer in print, aka it's so ugly no one wanted to sew it anymore!

When I made it:
Fall 2008. Yes, it took me basically the entire fall season. This dress involved a series of mishaps, like the fact that my machine refused to make buttonholes and instead kept eating my dress, until finally I took it to the alterations place at the mall and had them make the buttonholes for me. And then it took 3 weeks to get it back.

What I like about it:
...not much.
But it does have pockets! I also do like the Mandarin collar.
Honestly, this one is not my finest creation, but sometimes you gotta wear what you gotta wear, and wear it proudly, you know? :)

Couples' Haircuts

Sometimes doing normal everyday activities are funnier when you do them together. Like getting haircuts.

And taking pictures of them in the elevator.

Day 1 - Olive Green Ensemble!

Here is my very first outfit for Self-Stitched September! (I slapped on a yellow cardigan over this whole thing to make it "office appropriate," don't worry)

What I made:
A-line skirt, using this Burdastyle pattern
Cotton print fabric from Fabric.com

When I made it:
June 2010. It literally only took me about 4 hours from cutting to completion - maybe the fastest project I've ever done! I made it specifically to wear to this super-incredible event Gertie of New Blog for Better Sewing hosted where all her fellow sewist readers met up to go to the Brooklyn Museum. (Check me out right there in the front row of the group pic, same skirt!)




What I like about it:
Pockets! I will put some pockets on anything I possibly can.
The print - it reminds me of the playclothes Maria makes out of drapes for the kids in The Sound of Music! I would gladly wear drapes if that entitled me to sing with Julie Andrews on a mountaintop.
